energy, vitality, and the element of fire – yesterday in the cinema hall in Kiev. Centre inaugurated 8. Film Music Festival in Krakow. The first of the five great visual and audio performances belonged to the world of video game; in the lead role – Critical Hit, an American team of virtuosos recording and composing music for video games.
This year’s edition started on Tuesday – the evening in the BMW Dobrzański met connoisseurs of cinema car. It was also actively noon yesterday – in the Malopolska Garden of the Arts, where he worked Festival Master Classes participants. But the right formula opening the famous words: 8. Film Music Festival we consider to be opened, has been denounced in the evening, during a concert Video Game Show: Critical Hit.
It was a real multimedia show, a great celebration of music, energy and the impressive play of light. Critical Hit has the skilled – team members specialize in live concerts, video game, also in recording and composing soundtracks for games. The group was founded in 2013, founded by Jason Hayes, associate acclaimed Blizzard Entertainment, author of music for World of Warcraft and Michael Gluck, pianist occurring in 2003-2007 under the pseudonym “Piano Squall”, the founder VG Market – one of the largest companies engaged in market research in the field of video games. The core composition of the team (Michael Gluck – synthesizer, Sara Andon – flute, Tina Guo – cello, Caroline Campbell – violin, Kevin Dooley – drums, Salome Scheidegger – piano) joined yesterday by Polish guitarists: Natalia Brzozowska on bass and Alexander Milwiw-Baron electric guitar and acoustic insulation. Critical Hit has occurred in Europe for the first time; inaugurated the 8th edition of the festival was the only concert scheduled in Poland.
The evening was filled twenty musical themes, the most in more than forty-year history of the video game (like Tetris 1984 and Super Mario Brothers from 1985) and those completely new ( m.in.Dragon Age: Inquisition from 2014 and this year’s Heroes of the Storm). Music flowed from the stage full of vigor, joy and fire, sometimes demonic and acute (Cinematic Suite with Diablo II), sometimes with a hint of sensual lyricism (Streets of Whiterun from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim), yet another – drifting in the direction of heavy rock ( fragments of World of Warcraft). The total fulfill its full momentum visualization: animation, gaming pieces, colorful fun strobe light. Also flowed word – from the screen, in the form of recorded speeches game music composers (Martin O’Donnell, Ari Pulkkinen, Greg Edmonson, Peter McConnell, Norihiko Hibino), from the stage – through Michael Gluck, entering into living interaction with the audience. And the audience – filling the room Kijów.Centrum to the brim – Trevor Morris: guest of the Festival, Canadian film composer, author of the soundtrack to Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Before us the second day of the festival, and it m. al. meeting with composers of music for video games, open discussion on the challenges of Polish film music market, meeting with members of Critical Hit formation and talk about unconventional sounds in “blood” of film soundtracks.
