extermination camp “SS – Sonderkommando Sobibor” was founded in 1942 as part of “Operation Reinhardt”, whose aim was the annihilation of the Jewish population. In its place was chosen area located among swamps and forests, near the railway line Włodawa-Chelm, approx. 4 km from the village of Sobibor. The total number of victims of the concentration camp is not known. It is estimated that since March 1942. Until October 1943. Germans murdered at least 250 thousand. Jews, mostly from Polish, but also from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, occupied areas of the Soviet Union, Germany and France, as well as approx. Thousand Poles.
