Dutch translator of Pushkin despised prize, which he had to give him a … Putin. Hans Boland refused to accept the highest award in the field of culture – the Medal of Pushkin, in connection with the activities of Russia in Ukraine.
Hans Boland wrote in explaining sent to the Russian embassy that he would like to accept this decoration, but can not because of Putin.
He explained that Putin despises and hates his conduct. He called it the greatest threat to world peace. “Each relationship between him and me, between his name and the name of Pushkin, is disgusting and intolerable” – wrote in the letter.
Hans Boland translated almost all the works of Pushkin, Dostoevsky and as well as Akhmatova. He taught at the University of St. Petersburg and collaborated on the creation of a manual for the Russians to learn the Dutch language. Pushkin Medal is awarded since 1999 for the most outstanding achievements in the field of culture.
November 4 Boland had to pick it up in person at the hands of Putin, during the celebration of National Unity Day. Dutch newspaper writes that the Russian cultural attaché Fyodor Voronin, expressed disappointment with the decision Boland, but … thanks for the honesty.
