This is the end of the holidays and as usual the new academic year will start much faster than it all seems. About this, what is worth paying attention to the university and at the beginning of their careers and how to secure a good salary talk with Ms. Agnieszka Ciźlą with ACCA.

We August. Secondary school graduates and holders of Bachelors in the vast majority know where they will continue their education. What should pay attention to those who have not yet made a final decision on choosing a college?
Such determinants are really a lot – starting with the reputation of the same university and its faculty, the approach to the student and ending with the equally significant quality of student life. However, what most should pay attention, that matching individual skills, interests or vision of their future consideration direction. What else winds up future actors, and what other financiers. It should ask ourselves fundamental questions – where I see myself for 2, 5 or 10 years, and how can this be achieved? Plans and dreams, the private and the professional are extremely important, because unless a shame to waste years studying something that brings us closer to achieving them. And just study is the first and often most important step in creating their own future.
This also applies to graduates of degree?
Licencjaci and engineers have a little different situation – they have to decide to continue or change the field of study. Fundamental questions remain the same, but after a few years in college is easier to assess the selected direction. At this stage it is important that the chosen specialization is attractive to employers or university cooperates with companies, for example through internships or classes allow you to get to know the practice and are purely theoretical. In other words, the Masters well prepare and distinguish the graduate labor market.
So what can offer universities to help its graduates stand out in the job market?
Universities are increasingly present on international accreditations that affect the standards of teaching and university management and make graduates better position themselves in the labor market, including the international level. It is therefore important to look for information about Partnership Agreements with universities from abroad, international accreditation of educational institutions or professional associations. A good example of accredited professional organization that is recognized throughout the world title Program Accredited ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), given the directions “Finance and Accounting” or related. In Poland, we have 19 such programs at 10 leading universities in Warsaw, Krakow, Gdansk, Katowice, Poznan, Lodz, Bialystok and Wroclaw.
And if there are any directions which you experience should be taken into consideration?
Are you sure “Finance and Accounting”. This is due to several reasons. Firstly a long time we observe that the labor market even absorb the graduates that direction. It is predicted that in the coming years demand will increase even more. Secondly – it gives wide possibilities of professional specialization. After graduating you can perform many different professions – auditor, analyst, accountant and financial controller. Thirdly, this direction are large opportunities, both vertical (rapid rise) and horizontal (learning new skills). What’s more, the financiers are needed in every industry, from the banking sector, by industry, the show business. The choice of such a direction not only does not limit what actually creates and will create in the future, ever new ways of choosing the right sectors and industries of the market. The results of Goldman Recruitment Salary Survey 2015. show, that a member of the ACCA earns an average of 19 200 zł gross. This is almost 80% more than the person in the same position without qualification ACCA and more than offer an MBA or other qualifications.
So what can I do students and graduates to join this elite group?
To become a member, they must first of all have extensive knowledge of finance and accounting, which confirms the 14 exams passed. The exams are in English and are based on solving real business problems. For this prospective members must demonstrate at least 3 years of professional experience, and include on-line module of ethics. It is worth remembering that the choice is accredited by ACCA direction significantly shortens the path to membership – up to 9 ACCA exams may include a course of study. Therefore, selecting undergraduate, graduate or postgraduate should be guided by the ACCA accreditation. To sum up – ACCA is the clear worldwide proven competence. It’s like a pass to the world of Formula 1 drivers, but in the world top-financiers.
