It is with deep regret and sadness we say goodbye to George Kamasa, outstanding actor, our friend and master. Since 1971, he created the stage Athenaeum Theatre dozens of prominent roles. It will remain in our memory forever – said in Sunday’s statement management and team Athenaeum Theatre.
Kamas was one of the most acclaimed Polish film and theater actors. Throughout his career he has worked with many great directors – including Adam Hanuszkiewicz, Kazimierz Kutz and Maciej Prus.
He was born on July 8, 1938. in Lodz. He studied at the Acting Department of Lodz “Film School”. First he appeared in the theater in 1957 – on the stage of Theatre of the Łódź starred in the play “Smith, money and Stars” Jerzy Szaniawski, which was directed by Stefania Domańska. Three years later, in another Lodz theater – common – she starred in the plays of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” (dir. George Walden) and “Midsummer Night’s Dream” (dir. Emil Chaberski).
In Lodz Teatr Powszechny played until 1964. – performed there, among others, in “Pickwick Club” Charles Dickens and “The Physicists” by Friedrich Duerrenmatta. In the years 1964-1967 he was an actor Theatre. Slowackiego in Krakow. On the stage he played, among others, Poet in “Liberation” Wyspiański (dir. Bronislaw Dabrowski), Filch in “The Threepenny Opera” by Bertolt Brecht (dir. Lidia Zamkow) and Macduff in “Macbeth” by Shakespeare (dir. Lidia Zamkow).
From 1968. Kamasa could be seen at the National Theatre in Warsaw. He played in several productions directed by Adam Hanuszkiewicz – starred, among others, as Bianchetti in “Some divine comedy” Zygmunt Krasinski (1969), Inquisitor in “Saint Joan” by George Bernard Shaw (1969) car in the “Kordian” Julius Slovak (1970) and Claudius in “Hamlet” by Shakespeare (1970) . At the National Theatre Kamas also she starred in “Richard III” by Shakespeare, as Richard Duke of Gloucester (1969, dir. Jan Maciejowski) and “The Threepenny Opera” by Bertolt Brecht, as Mackie Majcher (1970, dir. Jan Maciejowski).
In 1971. Kamas began performing on the stage of the Athenaeum Theatre in Warsaw. He played in performances directed, among others, by Janusz Warminski, Kazimierz Kutz and Maciej Prus. In Warminski he played, among others, in “business associate” Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1973, as Cop), “creditors’ August Strindberg (1982, as Adolf) and” The Cherry Orchard “by Anton Chekhov (1986, as Leonid Andrejewicz Gajew). In Kutz – in “Danton’s Death” by Georg Buchner (1982, as Robespierre) and “confessions maidservants Zerlina” Hermann Broch (1992, as Mr. A.). In Prus – in “The Shoemakers” Witkiewicz (1971, as a young man), “Don Carlos” Friedrich Schiller (1972, as Father Domingo), “Fantazy” Julius Slovak (1973, as Count Fantazy Dafnicki) and “Gyubal Wahazar” Witkiewicz ( in 1973, as Wahazar).
