As we read at the sides of the Szczecin Philharmonic Hall , the idea of building its new headquarters at the site of the now defunct Concert House (Konzerthaus) was born in 2,004 years. Three years later the competition for the concept of a new philharmonic. Received proposals from 44 studio from around the world, and ultimately the jury opted for a project designed by Studio Barozzi / Veiga from Barcelona. The ceremonial opening of the new headquarters took place with the start of the artistic season 2014/2015.
Draft ice mass of the building was recognized not for the first time. It took first place in the prestigious Eurobuild Awards 2014 in the category “Best architectural project of the year”.
The interior of the Philharmonic is more than 12 thousand square meters on four floors. The building houses, among others, symphony hall, chamber music hall, rehearsal rooms, a music store and coffee shop.
Symphony Hall, also known as solar, can accommodate 953 spectators. Excellent acoustics thanks to the special geometry of the walls and ceilings, over which the architects worked with Dr. Higini Arau, the Barcelona specialist in architectural acoustics. All parameters of the symphony hall (strength, uniformity of sound, time delays and reflection coefficient side) give effect compared to the pattern of this kind of realization – the concert hall of the Musikverein in Vienna – states the philharmonic.
The chamber hall, designed for 192 spectators, the reverberation time is – as we read – consistent with projected to one hundredth of a second: Hence, this room has been dubbed “acoustic gems” .
