Carolina Breguła during guided tours curator of the exhibition

the first exhibition of the works of Carolina Breguła, in which she reflects on the sincerity of political and social commitment of artists and trying to see the useful value of art.

Facade commitment

the title of the exhibition “Renovation, the word disgusting like a cockroach” is derived from the video “soup”. His heroes are artists who are afraid to engage in a revolution happening right next door. Breguła asks whether the political and social commitment of artists is doomed to failure?

– This work touches the facade commitment – explains the artist. He added that the exhibition’s title refers to the “Shoemakers” Witkiewicz, in which words fall: “I no longer believe in any revolution. The word itself is disgusting like a cockroach (…)”.

the artist also presents photographs from the series “History of Art”, which moves about famous cases of destruction of works of art. On the first picture reminiscent of the work of Joseph Beuys’ Fettecke “(the artist in the corner of the room ASP Düsseldorf … he puts a lump of butter, which sprzątnięto). On your photos Breguła lump of butter … he puts it under his arm man. Also refers to the work of Martin Kippenberger – cleaner cleaned “trace dry rainwater” and to destroy the work “La nona ora” Maurizio Cattelan (Pope John Paul II overwhelms meteorite) in Zachęta.

Clover calf and making noise

At the exhibition you can see also other videos. “Sugar” was created during several months of stay in Florence.

– Communing with art in such intensity me so overwhelmed that I had to destroy an attractive sugar bowl – explains the artist.

The second film is “Insult “which shows that the restrictions may become a driving force of progress. The ban on rearing … shamrock on the calf (Breguła not hide Gombrowicz inspiration) encourages others to such an initiative.

It is interesting collection of objects – the work was created in the Arsenale. This “instruments to make noise,” which Breguła gathered in the studios of artists.

– You can rent them to take to demonstrate and make a big noise – encourages Breguła.

Trail quirks

On the second show we can see works by sculptor living in Warsaw – Sophia Kramz.

– The title “Why is anyone” refers to the often heard slogans uttered by people uninteresting in art. In these works I try to answer. I am showing different quirks, which for the heroes of my drawings have meaning. I present to people as a collection of misfits divided into different groups – explains the artist.

The characteristic black-and-white ink on paper projects are full of black humor, irony, but above all sensitivity to the absurdities of everyday life. Expressive works Gramza a commentary on the surrounding reality, response to flooding us media coverage for every aspect of human life.

The drawings are grouped in corners. And so in “Corner mitomańskim” the artist shows a man walking courses in creativity, directing his life (driving the car) and odciskającego hands on the sidewalk. In the corner of “The world of fashion and beauty,” advises, “as optically lengthen the legs and hide shortcomings” and presents fashion inspired by Polish. We also have other corners, for example. “Got Talent,” “People of art and theater” and “conscious consumer”. All drawings are irreverent, surprising, you have to watch them read the captions.

Do not miss the video. The first film, “After what to whom” Gramza created especially for the exhibition Bialystok and collected in the profession (pianist, painter and footballer, boxer, a stripper), which arouse different emotions. The second – “Health and sobriety” – can be associated with drunken vision, was shown in Warsaw vacancy rates.

Exhibitions can be viewed until 3 March, are open from Tuesday to Sunday hours. 10.00-18.00 (Thursday, free admission). Patrons exposures.
