Almost one in five of us can not imagine life without the Internet today – according to a survey IBRiS for the Orange Foundation. The network is treated primarily as a working tool, followed by a channel of contact with friends. According to respondents, in the last 10 years the development of technology most influenced the way of obtaining information, settling financial matters and maintain contacts.

On the occasion of the jubilee 10th anniversary, the Orange Foundation shows how changed by this time world. In 2005, Facebook had “only” 6 million users, YouTube appeared in the first film, there was no Twitter, and smartphones were not yet popular. Today, the largest social networking video site gets every minute 300 hours of material, published a day is about 800 million new tweets, and Facebook uses 1.5 billion people.

As shown survey commissioned by the Foundation Orange “Perception of the Internet and new technologies “, now 17 percent. Poles can not imagine life without the network. Interestingly, it remains for us first and foremost a working tool. In this way they perceive the internet primarily by men. It is also an attitude characteristic for inhabitants of big cities.

According to the respondents, in the last 10 years the development of the internet most affected by the acquisition of knowledge and information (53 per cent. of respondents), settling financial matters (44 percent.) and communication with friends and family (42 percent). These areas as entertainment, and e-shopping received much less indications (respectively 36 and 31 percent.). The way the profession has changed it for every fourth subject.

– Internet and technologies significantly contribute to social needs. Ensuring access to them is the first step in digitization. The increasingly important role played by the development of competencies to benefit from the achievements of civilization in a safe, useful and creative – says Konrad Ciesiołkiewicz after President of the Orange Foundation.

Digital competence is today one of the basic skills necessary for career advancement and to participate in social life. According to European Commission estimates, 90 percent. competition will soon require them to have at least a basic level. It is not surprising that almost half of the respondents in the survey of the Orange Foundation sees the technology as an opportunity for growth.
