Computer games as entertainment for smart people? – Gamedot (press release) (Registration) (Blog)

Twelve thousand Australian students were tested. They approached exams in mathematics, literature and widely understood science. They were also asked to complete a questionnaire on their economic situation as well as their interests and forms of activity undertaken in their free time.

After comparing sheets of the examination of the surveys found that students who almost daily spend time on computer games , achieved better results. From the rest of the students came out about 15 points above the average for math and 17 in reading and other areas of science.

However, do not fall into huraoptymizm, shut in a room and all day to play, claiming that just works to personal development. One researcher concludes that there are no studies proving ratio jam for computer games on the player’s intelligence. The results, which we have only prove that there is a relationship between the capable students, and their passion for gaming.

Interesting they are also other proposals that have been drawn from this study. It turned out that people who spend a lot of time on the use of social media tend to achieve lower academic achievement.
