The film “Ida” won an Academy Award
“Ida” is a moving and intimate film in which the director with a great sense combines an intimate story of a young woman with historical and social background. 60s in Poland. Anna is a novice, an orphan raised in a convent. Before vows puts the mother superior condition: She has to visit his aunt Wanda, the only living relative. The two embark on a journey that will help them not only in the knowledge of the tragic history of their families, but also the truth about who they are.
Oscar for “Ides” is a historic moment for Polish cinema. So far, none of the Pole failed to receive the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. “Ida” was also nominated for Best Picture, but the statuette went to the operator of the film “Birdman”.
All in all, our filmmakers were given up five Oscar nominations. In the category of short documentary films nominated films “Joanna” Aneta Kopacz and “Our curse” Thomas Sliwinski. A chance for a statuette for Best Costume Design was also Anna Biedrzycka-Sheppard – prepared costumes for “Witch” with Angelina Jolie.
During the 87th Academy Awards won film “Birdman” dir. Alejandro G. Iñárritu. He has won four statuettes, including Best Picture. The same number of awards accumulated “Grand Budapest Hotel” dir. Wes Anderson. Three Oscars won film “Whiplash” dir. Damien Chazelle.
