Computer entertainment? If in moderation, it’s the same benefits – Virtual Poland

Kids spending less than an hour a day for playing video games are better adjusted socially than those who do not play games or spend more time on it – we read in the journal “Pediatrics”.

Researchers at the University of Oxford (Britain) found that children aged 10-15 years, sacrificing a moderate amount of time (less than an hour a day) to play computer games have a higher satisfaction with life, better relationships with their peers and lower rates of hyperactivity than children avoiding this type of entertainment or playing games more than three hours a day. This effect is quite weak, but significant.

The researchers concluded that the least socially adept students who play games every day and long (over three hours), because they probably do not have enough time for other activities. There was no occurrence whereas neither positive nor negative effects of playing computer games for children who are doing it from one to three hours a day.

In the future it is planned to conduct additional studies that would determine which games or their properties have a positive or adverse effect on the functioning of youth.
